Hours of work

Limiting the hours worked by minors

  • You need to make sure that you and all other managers are completely clear about which of your workers are minors.
  • Make sure that anyone managing minors is aware of the restrictions and ensures that no minor is permitted to work more than the hours detailed here.
  • Inform the minor and their family about the restrictions on their working hours.
  • Ensure that the hours of all of minors are accurately recorded and check regularly to make sure minors are not working over the weekly limit. These hour limits are fixed and should not be exceeded in any circumstances.
  • Check with the permissions from the local authority to make sure you are abiding by any additional restrictions they place on working hours.
  • Know the date of birth of each minor as this may have an impact on the number of hours they can work.

  • You must not allow minors to work at night i.e. between the hours of 7pm and 7am.
