No discrimination is practised

Case study - Checking ID papers in the UK

Management at a factory in the UK carried out ID checks to ensure workers had the right to work. However, these checks were only carried out on workers who were foreign or who ‘looked foreign’. According to UK law, this is discrimination on the basis of nationality.

To resolve this, management now check the ID of ALL workers regardless of their nationality and records of these checks are kept including copies of the identity papers. This also presents the opportunity to check the ages of all workers and ensure that no workers are working under a false identity. This protects the factory from reputational damage and disruption of production.
