Medicals

Night Workers

  • Ensure that medicals are incorporated into the induction process for workers who will be working in the night hours. These medicals should be provided free of charge.
  • Identify a person to be responsible for making sure that these medicals are repeated on an annual basis.

Minors
What jobs are minors doing?

  • Make sure that minors are not working in a factory (including a pack house), with or near machinery or involved in any hazardous work. If hazardous substances are being used, they must not work either directly with them, or near where they are being used.
  • Look at the work activities minors carries out and make sure that these are not harmful to their health or development. Examples of excluded work would include lifting, moving substantial loads on pulley trucks and any work involving chemicals.

Risk assessments

  • For each minor you employ, you must conduct an INDIVIDUAL risk assessment that takes into account the particular risks in your workplace and the possible effects that they may have on the person. You should carry out this risk assessment BEFORE the minor begins work.

Supervision of minors

  • The people supervising minors should be made aware of the work restrictions on minors and must ensure minors do no more than the risk assessment identifies as being safe.
  • Before starting work, the minor must have been made aware of the jobs/work they are/are not allowed to do on site. Young Workers
