Working Time Regulations

Breaks - all workers
  • Workers are entitled to a 20 minute rest period if they work more than 6 hours in one day.
  • Young workers are entitled to a 30 minute break after 4.5 hours of work and 2 days off per week.
  • Minors must have a 1 hour break after 4 hours of work.

Agricultural Wages Orders

Breaks - all workers
  • Workers are entitled to a 30 minute break every 5.5 hours in England & Wales.
  • Agricultural workers can therefore work no more than 72 hours per week.
  • In order to work the maximum number of hours workers must have signed an opt-out agreement which allows them to work more than 48 hours per week

There are no separate provisions for breaks for young workers and minors under the Agricultural Workers Order
